The Netherlands

The Netherland are commonly called „Holland“. Yet, officially, it is called the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

A long time ago, People called it „Koninkrijk der Nederlanden„. The capital of Netherland is Amsterdam and is also known as one of the major cities. Others are Rotterdam and Utrecht. It is located in North-West of Europe and with parts in the Caribbean. The country consists of three parts known: the Netherlands itself located in the Western Europe, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba in the Caribbean.

The Netherlands are fairly small with an area of 41,528 square kilometers. Since most of the area of this country is low, some part of it is below sea level. They have lots of dikes to use their land effectively.

The Netherlands head of state is Queen Beatrix and she formed the Dutch government with the Minister. It is a constitutional monarchy where it is hereditary and has a coalition government. By following the Second Chamber elections, the prime Minister usually selected the leader of the majority party or coalition through the monarch and the Monarch usually appointed the deputy prime ministers.
Though Amsterdam is the capital of Netherlands, the government parliament is found in „Den Haag“.

The national language of Netherland is Dutch. Most people speak English and many of them also speak French and German.
The Netherlands consists of a wide range of several religions due to immigration. Though there are lots of denominations, they still coexist peacefully. As of 2002, Roman Catholic covers the biggest percentage of the population by having 31%. The second one is Dutch Reformed with 13%, Calvinist having 7%, Muslim with 5.5%, other religions with 2.5% and those who don’t have one with 41%.

The Netherlands are known to be the most densely populated area in Europe having the population of more than 17 million people. The country is also one of the best habitats of more than 100 natural reserves and almost 20 national parks.
